THE HISTORY OF MONDETTAThe world is quickly becoming smaller and a paradigm shift is taking place. The Cold War ends and the Berlin Wall evaporates when Mondetta launched by a single flag design sweatshirt and springs into a brand. During a record-setting snowstorm and in the middle of the cold Canadian winter, two sets of brothers are stranded in a basement and plan to make a little history of their own. Their dreams take flight when Mondetta Clothing is founded in Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1986. The name "Mondetta", rooted in French and Latin, literally means "small world". The brothers at first are working out of their parents basement and selling their homemade t-shirts on the beach from a pull cart. Through their sheer drive and youthful creativity, momentum is gained – the product offering grows and so does the brand awareness. Today, almost 25 years later, Mondetta is an international and thriving company with international distribution and a worldwide supply chain. The Mondetta message of cultural diversity grows from the company’s principals, born in East Africa and forced to relocate to Canada by Ugandan dictator Idi Amin. With virtually no belongings they were to experience first hand a multi-cultural upbringing in a land of opportunity and freedom – Canada. The importance of Mondetta’s message, calling for peace and unity, is a testament to the voice of its founders and is Illustrated best in the simple, yet powerful company slogan, "A Spirit of Unification". ![]() CLICK HERE TO VISIT US ON FACEBOOK & OUR HISTORICAL PHOTO GALLERY |
